El Nino!! Something In Memories

Saturday, February 10, 2007

El Nino coming back to Malaysia this year and as the news claimed it was started August last year and expected to be ended for the next 3 months.

As in the news today, reporter reported that we got a word of promise from the water management people that we have enough of water for next few months which is they do advice us as consumer not to worry.

This topic reminds me a few memories during year late 1997 - 1998. I will said this is the most hard time in my life (as for now). I'm still study at AIMKL (now UNIKL) that time. Late 1997 saw our country and most of Asian countries facing on economic crisis tragedy. During that year our Ringgit value was totally down. A lots of people lost their job and watching on a few company closed down.

A few months later El Nino shows the heat that you can feel it almost of the time especially during the day hours. The heat coming from every mother nature sources. From the sun (of course), the air and also the earth. My hostel at Block 10, Pantai Dalam experienced water cut down. We have to get in queue from the water tank's lorries that coming once a while just to get a pail or 2 of water for us to use for bath, drinks and including for toilet business. At some points, we do get a shower at mosque and 'selected' public toilets. You can just imagine that we sometimes brings soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, second clothes, inner wear, towel, deodorant and some other personal toiletries into our classroom or maybe to shopping mall or cinema.

You see, for all the heats and no good water supply, if you did not get a shower, bak kata pujangga Meen, "minyak kat muka boleh buat goreng ikan". If 1 lucky day we had enough water supply from our water tank we managed to do some laundry.

If, this year El Nino worst as 1998 (but the news said not), I could not imagine of keeping enough water supply for whole my family. Dulu-dulu single ok la.. jaga diri je.. but now dah ada budak kecik ni... not that easy as I can imagine.

Later after El Nino, again the most shocking news for Malaysian on Anuar Ibrahim case. As my college located at Jalan TAR, so I got chance watching people riots a long that famous road LIVE from top of my college building. At 1 most critical time, most of students stuck in the building and not allowed to leave the building. Kalau dah lapor sangat tu.. we've sent the most macho guy and escort by security guard to but some munch food. We only able to leave the building after 9pm and its really hard for us to catch the bus as the bus business was stranded somewhere in Kuala Lumpur routes due to the riots.
